Hishammuddin: Up to AG to Act Against Mat Sabu
KLANG, 10 SEPTEMBER, 2011: Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said today that it is up to the Attorney General to take any action against PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu for his alleged statement that the communists were the real heroes in the Bukit Kepong tragedy of 1950 in Johor.
He said the case of Mohamad Sabu, also known as Mat Sabu, was largely based on the law, and only the Attorney General could determine the action to be taken against him.
"The person who can ascertain whether the case can be prosecuted in court is the Attorney General," he told reporters after launching a lantern festival and Merdeka Raya celebrations here.
Penang police chief Datuk Ayub Yaakob was reported to have said that the investigation papers had been sent to Bukit Aman for scrutiny and would be referred to the office of the Public Prosecutor.
Hishammuddin also said that the statement of Mat Sabu did not constitute a security threat, and it was therefore not an option to investigate him under the Internal Security Act.
