[Nota: Ramai yang tanya saya pasal video TPM. Saya cakap jangan percaya ulasan portal pro-pembangkang yang cuba melaga-lagakan mereka. Dengar sendiri video tu.
There is a big fuss among political commentators in the last few days.
I was not aware of it until I received an internet link from my friend on my What's App messaging showing a 7 minutes video clip of the Deputy Prime Minister's speech he delivered during a recent training session of divisional leaders of UMNO.
There is a comment attached to the What's App message from a friend alleging that the DPM is on a major collision course with the Prime Minister on 1MDB. So I guess that was what the fuss all about!
I think I watched the video not less than 5 times to see if there is any truth to the allegation. Watching the DPM's video, I honestly do not see any major differences in the PM & the DPM's view re:1MDB.
Here's my observation after comparing what DPM said in the video and what the PM has said publicly before.
Firstly, the DPM said he is worried that the 1MDB has become an urgent concern of the public and that if not resolved immediately it is going to affect the government and the future of the party. If we follow public statements made by the Prime Minister before this, he is also on record saying the same.
Secondly, the DPM said in the video that 1MDB requires immediate and urgent investigation. The government should not wait any longer. He talked about the need "to hold the bull by its horns". I think so does the PM. That is why we heard the PM announced an immediate investigation by the Auditor General and the parliamentary's Public Accounts Committee and the investigation must be completed in a few months time.
The only difference of opinion between the PM and the DPM which I noticed in the video, is that the DPM is asking the current board of directors and the current CEO to be removed right now, while the PM is taking a position that action against anyone will only be taken after exhaustive investigation by the Auditor General and the PAC is completed.
While I agree with the DPM that immediate removal of the CEO and the Board member could calm the public's anxiety over this issue, I am not that sure if the decision would help us expedite our quest to find the truth.
Naturally the first thing the new CEO and the new board members will be asking is more time to understand the issues at hand. How could they answer questions if they didn't know the head and tail of the issue.
They might asked for a few months to go through all the details and the documents before they could understand what had happened and testify in the on going investigation by the Auditor General and the PAC. That is time wasted and goes against the very call for urgency by the public to investigate 1MDB.
In my opinion, sacking the current CEO and the board members now should only be an option if the CEO and the Chairman of the Board of 1MDB refuse to testify. Both men have gone on public record saying they will cooperate and look forward to testify in the Auditor General and the PAC investigations.
A little but important note to remember. The current CEO is only appointed a few months ago. He is not involved in the much talked about controversial transactions of 1MDB which occurred way before he joined the organization. I don't know how his sacking can contribute in our quest to find the truth.
On another note, to be fair to the DPM, he did mention in the video that it was not his intention to show hatred towards the PM or to show that they were not on the same page. In fact in the video, the DPM took time to say that he respected the PM.
So, I called my friend and asked him, what's the big fuss again?
